McKenzie joined the State Climate Office in August 2024 as an ECONet Researcher, but is no stranger to North Carolina. She earned her B.S. in Meteorology with a minor in Environmental Science from NC State in 2022, followed by an M.S. in Atmospheric Science from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Her thesis focused on analyzing the microphysical properties of snowfall in Buffalo, NY, with a particular emphasis on comparing lake-effect snowfall and synoptic snowfall events. 

Though McKenzie’s current research no longer focuses on snow, she continues to work with observational data by utilizing climate data from the North Carolina ECONet, contributing to ongoing research efforts within the office.
