A very cold and moist northwest flow resulted in development of scattered to numerous snow showers across the western mountains during the evening of the 9th, continuing into the 10th. Total snowfall accumulations were highly variable across the area, ranging from trace amounts in the valleys beneath the Smokies to as much as 4 inches in some areas.
